Sharp when they needed to be (sometimes), a bit rusty when they weren’t, and definitely not something I spent a lot of time thinking about beyond their basic function. Then, I tackled a rather ambitious backyard renovation a few years back, which involved tearing out some old, overgrown flower beds and replanting a whole new landscape. Suddenly, my trusty trowel and I were inseparable. And that’s when I started noticing the difference a well-maintained tool can make.
